Reviews of books traditionally from the Fantasy genre, not Romance, and some science fiction.
I'm amazed how many people don't know about this book. In the early 1970s, it was a must read for everyone who was becoming politically aware!
It's presented as humor, but has been described as political and sociological black humor.
A group of professors from middle America decide to take over the US government when their own careers are hitting difficulties. They see the problems in the system and work out solutions which require getting the voters to cooperate with their plans. Voter apathy plays a major part in their ability to manipulate the system completely, reflecting what really happens in elections in modern times when the worst tyrants dupe voters into going along with what they want. Presumably today's politicians all read this book in school!
Social commentary aside, it's a great story and will keep you amused, unless you start thinking too much. Then it might turn you into a raving political reformer. At least you can say it has impact.
